Strategic plan for Blueberries New Zealand

Mission Statement

Blueberries New Zealand seeks to further the interests of the New Zealand blueberry industry.

Objectives:

Political

  1. To facilitate lobbying and information transfer to growers on matters which may affect their business.
  2. To represent the interests of the New Zealand blueberry industry in those international forums where New Zealand blueberries are marketed.

Technology or Information Transfer

  1. When matters arise of interest or effecting the industry, coordinate and fund where required.
  2. To facilitate the transfer of information and technology to the NZ blueberry industry.

Promotion

  1. To promote the sale and consumption of blueberries both in NZ and overseas appropriate to foreseeable production levels via a range of media including television and print.
  2. To facilitate the promotion of New Zealand blueberries by providing generic promotional resource material to the industry at cost, or at a discount.
  3. Developing a resource of material such as photographs video footage, and recipes available for industry use.
  4. Maintaining a knowledge base of information about the blueberry industry available through this website.

Research and Development

  1. Provide direction for the breeding program by way of objectives
  2. Provide funding at an appropriate level for the breeding program.
  3. Provide management services for the propagation division from within existing services
  4. To seek cost effective research for other projects for the industry as required

Quality

  1. To establish health guidelines for fruit production, harvesting, packing, handling, storage and transportation.
  2. To establish quality control guidelines for export sales of fresh and frozen fruit.
  3. To coordinate training days for quality control information transfer.
  4. Coordinate and fund the monitoring of spray diaries, chemical usage, quality auditing, and other quality or health issues as they arise.
